Worried about what your child is doing online? Is your answer yes? Taking your concerns into account, Net gear has launched a new feature on most networking devices. This feature is known as Netgear Router Parental Control. This feature is content filtering that can help you block your children from accessing adult websites. This article talks about how you can enable this feature by accessing the Nighthawk router setup wizard.
How to Enable Parental Controls on a Net gear Router?
1. Turn on the Netgear router
Start the process by plugging your Netgear Nighthawk router into an outlet. Press the power button and wait for a while. Once the LED turns on, go to the next step and set up the parental control feature on your wireless router.
2. Connect network devices
The next step is to establish a stable connection between your Netgear Nighthawk router and your existing modem. You can only make a hard connection between them if you use an Ethernet cable. Using a wireless connection source will only push you into a pit of disadvantages and future technical problems.
3. Open a web browser
Once you have established a stable connection between your network devices, open your computer. Access the Internet browser. Some examples:
- Google Chrome
- Mozilla Firefox
- Apple Safari
- Microsoft Edge
- Internet Explorer
- Opera
Make sure whatever browser you choose is running on the latest version.
4. Go to Routerlogin.net
Click on the address field of your browser. When you see the cursor start to blink quickly, type routerlogin.net and press Enter. Before you can blink, the Netgear router login page will appear.
5. Log in to the Netgear router
On the Netgear router login page, there will be two fields, one named Username and the other named Password. Enter the required credentials in these fields and click the Login button. The Netgear Genie Smart Setup Wizard will pop up on your computer screen.
6. Enable parental control
Find the Settings menu and go to the Parental Controls menu. The Net gear router’s parental control page will appear soon. Click Next to continue. If you have an OpenDNS account, select Yes. If not, follow these steps:
- Select No.
- Click Next.
- Fill in the text fields.
- Create an OpenDNS account.
- Click Next.
- Select a filtering level.
- Press Next.
- Now, in the Netgear Genie Status window, click Change Custom Settings.
- Click the Add Missed Account button.
- Enter your username and password, then click Add Account.
- Select a filtering level.
- Go to the Netgear Genie Status window.
- Hit Bypass Login.
- Enter your password and click Login.
- Follow the instructions on the screen.
This way, you will be able to easily enable the Netgear router’s parental control feature on your wireless device. If you happen to find this method a bit difficult to do, consider choosing the Nighthawk app.
Finally
There isn’t a parent in the world who doesn’t care about their child’s safety, online or otherwise. Since you are also among them, we really hope that you will be able to enable the Netgear router’s parental control feature.
To ensure this feature works properly on your device, make sure your router is running the latest firmware version and that you have access to a lightning-fast internet connection at all times.
