We are so excited to introduce you to the brand new Freelancer Geneva by Raymond Weil. Not only is it a limited edition watch, the Raymond Weil Freelancer Diver 2760 has a beautiful story behind it – and we can’t wait to tell you all about it.
Whether you’re an avid diver or just like the look of a diver’s watch, this new Freelancer Diver 2760 is not to be missed. Speaking to us through this new watch is Raymond Weil’s CEO, Elie Bernheim, who we were lucky enough to have an exclusive interview with. Exciting, right? Let’s dive in…
Let’s start from the beginning, tell us about this new watch and what makes it so special…
“The Freelancer Diver 2760 is our latest watch here at Raymond Weil. The inspiration comes from our deep-rooted connection to Geneva as a brand, but also as a family. But it is the detail of the watch that makes it truly special. Among the most beautiful design elements are the blue gradient dial and the waterdrop date window.”
“Geneva has a rich watchmaking history dating back to the 16th century, so capturing Raymond Weil’s relationship with the city in this limited edition timepiece is truly exceptional. I have so many beautiful memories of Geneva and Lac Léman.”
What do you like most about Geneva Freelancer?
(For us, it’s a blue dial inspired by Leman Lake!)
“The engraving on the back of the Jet d’eau case is very special. I was born in Geneva, it is a hugely recognizable landmark of Geneva and, more personally, my hometown, which I still call home.”
Who do you think will like this watch?
“Someone who wants to buy a unique watch that is not only truly beautiful, but also functional. The new Freelancer Diver 2760 is water resistant to 310m, which is the depth of Lac Léman, which is why only 310 pieces are available worldwide. So if someone is looking for a watch that will become a firm favorite in their collection, this is the watch for them.”
What are your favorite current or upcoming luxury watch trends?
“I’m happy to see the rise in popularity of our Freelancer family. I’m sure true watch lovers will know that colored dials are now very desirable and this has certainly influenced some of our latest watches, both for men and women.”
Finally, what can we expect from Raymond Weil in the future?
“We have several more exciting releases ahead of Christmas 2022 and will be expanding our product offering even further as we move into next year. Raymond Weil is one of the last family-owned watch companies, the entire team is involved in the creation of a new watch, from the initial design concept to the final quality control in Geneva.”
We absolutely love this new watch and would love to know what you think too!
When you mention Raymond Weil, I immediately think of their rich history of making music-themed watches like the Maestro. During 2022, however, it was their sports watch collection that took the spotlight with releases like the Freelancer Chronograph 7741 and Freelancer Chronograph 7780. Their latest watch is another Freelancer sports watch, but this time it’s a diving watch, the Freelancer Diver Geneva Limited Edition.
The watch case is based on the Freelancer Diver 2019 and features the same 42.5mm stainless steel construction with a ceramic diver bezel insert. Although instead of having a water resistance rating of 300m like the 2019 model, the new piece is rated at 310m to match the depth of Lac Léman (Lake Geneva) in homage to the city that Raymond Weil calls home.
What sets the Freelancer Diver Geneva Limited Edition apart from previous Freelancers, and indeed most dive watches on the market, is its dial. While the idea of a blue gradient dial is nothing new, the way it is executed here is very distinctive.
Instead of the linear gradient from 12 o’clock to 6 o’clock found on watches like the Spinnaker HASS, it has an off-center radial gradient. The darkest part of the dial is concentrated at 6 o’clock and lightens towards the edges in an extremely satisfying way.
On the back of the Freelancer Diver Geneva Limited Edition is a solid screw-down case back with an engraving of the popular Geneva landmark “Jet d’Eau”. You can also see its limited edition range from 001 to 310, a nod to the fact that there are only 310 pieces available – a number that matches the
Hidden behind the case back is the RW4200 caliber, which is based on the Sellita SW200 and has a 38-hour power reserve. If I’ve said it once I’ve said it a thousand times, the power reserve is a little underwhelming, but it makes up for it with solid workhorse reliability and ease of repair.
I can say without a doubt that the Raymond Weil Freelancer Diver Geneva Limited Edition is Raymond Weil’s best launch this year and it makes my heart beat a little faster than usual.
